Foster Kitten Mama

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I adopt?

You wait for their pre-adoption date to be announced, then you can ask for an application that day. As applications come in, I spend the day matching cats and families to make sure everyone finds a home.

How much does the adoption cost?

The adoption fees are $165 each which goes towards neuter, FVRCP vaccine, microchip, dewormer, rabies when applicable etc. Anything beyond that is greatly appreciated to help continue saving more lives. Kittens are raised in a home with kids and lots of socializing and I am not affiliated with any other groups so do this completely on my own.

If your application is selected, you send in adoption fees, and I announce the pre-adoption on my Instagram and Facebook pages.

The next step is setting an adoption and pick up date that takes place after their vet appointment to be spayed or neutered.

Are the cats available on a first come first served basis?

The simple answer is no.

People adopting a mother get top priority choice of a kitten/kittens. Next, those adopting pairs are given priority. If you want a single cat, you must already have a fur friend at home for them.

Beyond that, cats go to the best fitting home.

Are the cats fixed and vaccinated before adoption?

Yes!! Every cat that comes through our home is spayed or neutered before being adopted. They also receive their first FVRCP vaccine, rabies vaccine (if they are over 3 pounds), and are de-wormed twice.

Where are you located?

Castle Rock, CO

Will you adopt out of state?

Yes, I have adopted to families out of state. The circumstances have to be right, but I am certainly open to discussing the possibility.

What age are the kittens when adopted?

Around 10 to 11 weeks.

Can I meet the cats beforehand?

Right now, no. Partly due to COVID and also because of the way adoptions are set up. You’ll learn much more from the ample pictures and videos that are posted than you would from a short meet and greet.

How do I know which cat is part of which litter?

I name by the alphabet so if you see a cat named "Remy", for example, it is a part of the "R" litter. I am on the second round of the alphabet so if you'll notice some reapeat letters. I'll also mix things up a bit with theme litters that are based on characters from movies, TV shows, etc.

How do I know which cats are up for adoption?

Check out my Instagram page where I feature the latest cats available.

Can I adopt a single cat?

Yes, but only if you have another fur friend at home for your kitty. Adopting a single cat without a waiting friend isn’t in the kitty's best interest.

Where do your cats come from?

Once you start to rescue, the cats seem to fall from the sky!! Seriously though, I’m part of many local rescue pages on Facebook where needs are posted, and have made many connections with other local rescuers. These kitties are mostly found abandoned on the streets or have been born there.

Are you part of a rescue or shelter?

Nope! Foster Kitten Mama, or FKM, is my full-time rescue! I started fostering with a local group and then went out on my own in the summer of 2020. It’s just me with my family, helping as many cats as we can! We can only do this with the generous support of my Instagram and Facebook followers!

Do you take in adult cats?

I take in pregnant mothers and young kittens. This is the area that I have chosen to focus on and pregnant moms are a group I feel lack the most help in our area.
